Student Finance calculator
See roughly how much Student Finance England could cover for your tuition and living costs, and what you would repay each month once you are working. Takes about a minute.
Important: this calculator gives a guide only, not an offer or a decision. Your real entitlement is set by Student Finance England (SFE) after you apply, using your household income, course and circumstances. Always confirm on GOV.UK. Dream Wise Education is not a lender.
How we work this out
- Tuition fee loan: up to the current maximum, paid straight to the provider.
- Maintenance loan: depends on where you live while studying and on household income. The maximum applies up to £25,000 and then reduces towards a minimum.
- Repayment: new English students starting from August 2023 are on Plan 5. You repay 9% of what you earn above £25,000 a year. It is based on your income, not on how much you borrowed, and any balance is written off 40 years after the April you were first due to repay. There is no write-off at a certain age on Plan 5, and the loan is cancelled on death. If you already have an older loan (Plan 1, 2 or 4), you repay under those rules as well. Interest is added to the balance (currently 4.1%, linked to RPI inflation and reset each September).
- Not included: benefits, grants, bursaries, disabled students' or lone-parent increases, and part-time study.
