What you can study
Foundation-year routes are available across many subjects. Exact courses, entry requirements and intakes vary by university, and your adviser will confirm them for you.
How is it paid for?
Most eligible students in England use Student Finance rather than paying fees upfront.
Tuition fee loan
Eligible students can apply for a loan that covers course fees, paid directly to the university. You repay it later, and only once your income is above the repayment threshold.
Maintenance support
Depending on your household income and circumstances, you may also be able to get help with living costs. We'll explain what applies to you.

Quick answers
Do I need A levels?
Not for a foundation-year degree. These routes are designed for adults who don't have the usual entry qualifications. Your adviser will check the requirements for your chosen course.
Am I too old to go to university?
No. Many students start as adults, often after years of work or raising a family. There is no upper age limit for most courses.
Is your service free?
Our guidance and application support are free to you. Course fees are set by universities, and many eligible students use Student Finance to cover them.
How do I pay for the course?
Most eligible students in England apply for a Student Finance tuition fee loan, repaid later and only when income is above the threshold. We'll explain what applies to your situation.
Which intakes are available?
We are currently helping students apply for the November 2026 and January 2027 intakes. Places and dates vary by university, so please check early.
Why do you ask where I live?
Student Finance and the routes we support depend on living in England, so we ask first to avoid wasting your time.
